Maxicare founder wins Entrepreneurship Award at the 38th Agora Awards

Dr. Roberto Macasaet Sr., Maxicare Healthcare Corporation’s Founder and Chairman Emeritus, has been awarded with the Outstanding Achievement in Entrepreneurship (Large Scale) at the recently concluded Philippine Marketing Association’s 38th Agora Awards held at the Maynila Ballroom of the Manila Hotel last November 9, 2017.

Now on its 38th year, the Agora Awards recognize individuals who have demonstrated excellence in the field of marketing in the Philippines. They have been running since 1979, and have been held by the Philippine Marketing Association, who aims to promote the science and ethics of the marketing profession, and uphold corporate social responsibility and corporate citizenship.

Dr. Macasaet has been instrumental in shaping the way the Philippine healthcare industry does business today, through his founding of one of the first Health Maintenance Organizations in the country. He is responsible for introducing healthcare services that have allowed for more flexible options for Filipinos of all income levels and employment. His achievement is truly worthy of recognition, not only showing exemplary business prowess but also a genuine love and concern for the Filipino people’s welfare.

He is also a medical professional by trade, having received his medical degree from the University of the Philippines, and having trained at Fordham University in General Surgery, Urology, and Pathology. He was head of Makati Medical Center’s Department of Urology, currently a member of that hospital’s Advisory Committee. He also serves as chairman of Associated Medical and Clinical Services, and was previously chairman of Fil Hispano Ceramics, Inc.

HMO banks on partnership with Medical City for growth

MAXICARE Healthcare Corp. (Maxicare) is banking on its partnership with Professional Services Inc. (PSI), owner and operator of The Medical City (TMC), for business growth.

Maxicare, which falls under the health maintenance organization (HMO) industry, sees that there is a need to offer more affordable healthcare products and services that more Filipinos can avail themselves of.

“This service; I really expect this to be a big driver of our business,” Maxicare President and CEO Christian S. Argos said. “We are working with partners like TMC to bring the cost of health care down and this is the first of those products.”

Argos spoke to reporters on the launch of its cobranded product with The Medical City called “TMC Partner Care.” He said they expect the product would help the company increase its member base in the coming years.

“So right now, we are at 1.2 million members and we want to be 10 million members in three years,” Argos explained. “And the only way for us to do that is to have products like this [at] lower price points.”

He said during the launch on Wednesday the cobranded product is a “full-risk health-care plan that is clinic-based.” Argos added the product covers patients required to be confined in the hospital and outpatients, as well, with an annual benefit limit of P100,000. Individuals with ages ranging from 21 to 45 may subscribe to the plan for less than P12,000 per year.

“How many [Filipinos] have HMO coverage? Maybe 6 [million ] to 7 million [only],” he added. “I see a big upside as long as you make the product affordable.”

The product also offers a 24/7 hot line with a medical professional allied with the TMC.

“And with this partnership with Maxicare, we have further widened the scope and opportunity for more Filipinos to avail [themselves] of world-class medical services,” According to PSI COO Jose Xavier B. Gonzales, the product is available in all TMC hospitals and clinics and Maxicare primary care centers nationwide. Currently, the TMC has five hospitals with 41 clinics, while Maxicare is affiliated with 56,000 doctors and more than 1,000 hospitals and clinics.

“I foresee the bigger market for this is [composed of] the ones without HMO coverage so we wanted to make this product very affordable, accessible,” Argos said. “I think that is really where the volume will be, the self-employed, dependents, so it’s very useful.”

Maxicare launched its first ever wing outside Metro Manila

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Leading healthcare provider, Maxicare Healthcare Corp. opened its first direct hospital care facility for clients in a private-ran hospital here.

Called the Maxicare Exclusive Wing, the facility is an exclusive section, or wing, of the Metro Davao Medical and Research Center (MDMRC), a private tertiary hospital here along Bajada.

Christian Argos, Maxicare president, said in it chose to place its direct medical care unit inside the MDMRC after the hospital passed its preference for a “clinics, hospitals, and doctors [who] have high performance and best patient care “.

“The MDMRC was the chosen partner because it is one of the hospitals with the best outcome according to their past performances here in the city,” Argos said.

The Maxicare Wing in Davao is the second biggest market after Luzon.

There are 14 bed s available in the Maxicare wing located at the hospital’s seventh floor.

Argos said that they want to upgrade the patient’s experience through MDMRC “by bringing fast admission and discharge process and access to the facilities and healthcare professionals “.

During the inaugural ceremony on April 20, Dr. Jetty Jet Lu, MDMRC chief of clinics, said it took more than 12 months to approve the partnership between MDMRC and Maxicare.

“As we reached our 5th year in the healthcare industry, this is also part of our milestone that the Maxicare sees our potential in serving the people of Davao City as well as its nearby provinces,” Lu said.

The MDMRC’s newest vision is to be the most preferred hospital in Mindanao among patients, clients, and doctors. (davaotoday.com)
